We brought theatrical installations, hidden worlds, dancing girls, musical parades, processing sideshows, funeral marches, fortune tellers, Voodoo games, make up artists, dressing up boxes and photo booths of all descriptions to Southern Comfort’s SoCo Socials and Fat Tuesdays festival tents and parties from 2006 to 2010.
We packed up our suitcase full of feathers and traveled with them to :
Ibiza Atzaro, Bestival, The Big Chill, Indian Summer Festival and The Old Queen's Head for Halloween - all in 2006,
The Big Chill House for Halloween in 2007, London's Cargo for Mardi Gras in 2008, Rockness Festival in 2009,
and The Macbeth in Hoxton for Mardi Gras 2010,
Gideon Reeling said of part of this body of work “ ‘Mr Shultz’s Studio and Voodoo Yurt’ was a surreal sideshow that popped up in 2006 September at Bestival on the Isle of Wight. A self-contained set designed and built adjacent to Southern Comfort’s SOCO dance tent: 10 performers inhabited this unexpected promenade leading visitors to pose in a strange Victorian photographer’s studio, before being dragged through the back of a sofa into a Deep Southern voodoo world of jazz, zombies and divination. I can think of nothing better to stumble upon in a field, can you?”
