The Reeling Wedding

Brand
Vauxhall Collective

The Wedding of Alice Skinner and Gil Reeling (Gideon's brother) was the culmination of The Great British Road Trip: The Theatre Bursary Winner of the First Vauxhall Collective

and it was intensely fun, very surreal and genuinely durational- at times it really did feel like the most awkward 80s wedding you never went to. Sadly, as with most weddings, capacity and money were an issue and therefore Mr Reeling decided that he could only invite the most interesting and widely travelled guests to attend. Gideon Reeling’s Road Trip was the vehicle by which we found the guests.

The Great British Road Trip was:
a game,
a series of interactive performance pieces
a grand finale performance-come-party for the selected players
an interactive online experience
And it was a design your own discovery road-trip around this green and pleasant land

The (sadly evaporated) website we made provided information on some interesting attractions around Great Britain.
How many places of interest each participant visited, and when, was up to them and down to the road trip they wished to create.  But, the more of these sights that they visited and the more evidence of their trip that they posted on the website, the higher their score and chance to be invited to the final event in March 2009

Mr Reeling’s assistants recall road trips of their youth, so often prompted by the necessity of  arrival at big family events. Cousin Linda’s wedding in Poole, or “..........’s ....… in …………” (fill in blanks with title, name, occasion and location here). These auspicious occasions would so often be twinned with unexpected visits to places of interest, strange half remembered museums, peculiar campsites, lesser spotted relatives and cetera. Gideon Reeling’s Road Trip and The following  Reeling Family Wedding was a game,  interactive performance pieces, a grand finale performance-come-party for the selected players, an interactive online experience, and it was a design your own discovery road-trip around this green and pleasant land.
